The Fiddle Leaf Fig
It is almost impossible nowadays to browse through a catalogue, magazine or even watch a television commercial without spotting a Fiddle Leaf Fig or (Ficus Lyrata). These Tropical plants from the equatorial regions of Africa make a surprisingly ideal indoor plant. Fiddle Leaf Figs are perfect indoor plants here in the Shoalhaven and Illawarra.
They require minimal attention and are not very thirsty only needing a drink or two a week. Ficus Lyrata in their native environment of Gabon in Tropical Africa grow 15m – 30m in height, but they can be well trained house plants here in NSW.
The Luxury Indoor Plant Statement Piece
Fiddle leaf figs are a statement piece in any living room. They have large oval, violin shaped leaves growing up to 50cm in length. Leaves are green and shiny in appearance with beautiful pale green veins. Fiddle Leaf Figs can be grown as a single specimen but often have numerous trunks which can be attached to a stake for support.
Don’t pamper this plant or the leaves will start falling off. Give it a bright room, a few sips of water every now and then and prune back any straggly stems. Place a saucer under the pot plant and fill with water until you see it drain through. Walk away and admire the view. Don’t over water!
Get in on the fun of having a long lived hardy tropical statement piece in your indoor collection.
