Adiantum – (Maidenhair Fern)

Maidenhair fern

There are over 200 species of adiantum or maidenhair ferns around the world. Researchers have attempted to classify the species as its own distinct family. They can be somewhat temperamental, but many collectors strive to provide the right growing conditions in their home to showcase this delicate fern.

You can find maidenhair ferns growing natively in most continents around the world. They prefer a semi-shaded environment with humus-rich soil that allows for good drainage. Always keep your maidenhair fern out of direct sunlight and try to raise the humidity of their environment by placing the pot in a tray of damp gravel. During the summer months, you can feed the maidenhair fern with diluted liquid fertiliser.

It would be best if you never let your maidenhair fern completely dry out, as this is a surefire way to kill the plant.
